Circle of Trees 2016
On Sunday October 9 2016, participants of The Marathon Project conducted a planting day to create a circle of 36 trees on the property of Marathon to emulate the degrees of the compass. In addition to the circle, an additional 30 trees will be planted along the Nile River that runs through Marathon, and at other locations on the property.
The seedlings were collected from ‘mother trees’ on the property by The Marathon Project participants Andrew Cameron, and UTAS Restoration Ecologist, Dr Tanya Bailey. The species include Eucalyptus ovata (Black Gum), Eucalyptus pauciflora (Snow Gum), Eucalyptus viminalis (White Gum).
The plantings are being supported by NRM North, The Nile Catchment and Landcare Group Inc, Landcare Tasmania, and the National Landcare Program.
